Lighting Workshop with Nick Fancher

I've been needing to bump up my lighting skills for awhile now... time and cost always seemed to stand in the way.  But I am about to make the jump (again) back to doing ONLY photography full-time come this Spring (2017).  So it was a "now or never" scenario... I didn't want to go back to photography full-time without this kind of knowledge and experience,  so finding Nick Fancher's workshop was perfect timing.

It turned out to be much more than I could have hoped for.  You see, lighting can be quite mathematical for those who know it really well.  So most of the mini-workshops I've taken in the past were always geared around the math of lighting - which, unfortunately for this gal is all greek.  Yes, I can do math (kinda), but it's never been my friend long enough to want to be my BFF.  There are three types of photographers: 1) Those that are strictly technical - they know everything about their gear - and can spit out a lot of mathy terms; 2) Those that are highly creative - they are closer to being fine artists, but don't know a lick about the technical stuff; and 3) The rare creatures that can be a blend of both.  I started out as just being a strong creative, but as the years tick on, I am striving to be a rare creature.  I don't necessarily want to be as techy as some of my counterparts, but just enough to be able to create those lovely images that I know are within my reach.  (I will always be a die-hard artist).

Nick, however, brought all of his techy lighting knowledge down to a level that was simple and understandable... and here is the results:

Above are some of my favorite shots from the day, and below is some of the behind the scenes actions (below was taken on my iPhone and are not as polished as they probably should be)... the last image at the bottom in b/w is of Nick sharing his Lightroom skills.

Awesome doesn't even begin to describe the experience!!  If you are serious about photography and are interested in learning lighting - I would highly recommend checking out one of Nick's workshops (it's worth the investment) - there's another one coming up in November.  Also, he has three books out on lighting!!  They are easy to read and understand - I am currently making my way through his latest book, "Studio Anywhere 2".
