I don't get to take vacations very often. However, I have been wanting to visit my brother & sister-in-law in North Carolina... so I figured this was the best time to go. I can't travel (very easily) during the summer months because that's my wedding season. I've been telling Jeremy (my brother), that I'd come and visit him for years... so decided this year, I just needed to go!! Besides, I have a new sister-in-law, Lisa, that I needed to have time to bond with too.
The above photos are along the riverfront in Old Wilmington. Really pretty downtown with quaint shops. We stopped at Wake and Bake - an awesome donut shop and picked up favorites for later. Lisa and I had spent the day together, so it was an extra treat that as we headed into the downtown area, we were able to meet up with Jeremy after work. Even though we had donuts in the car heading back after a lovely stroll... Lisa wanted to make sure I also experienced, Burney's Bakery. I should have taken pictures of these delicious creations, but I was too busy drooling over the yumminess.
We visited a cute little park near their home. I could imagine taking engagement session photos on this boardwalk and out on the pier after it was all finished being built.
We took a day when we drove over to Topsail Beach Island and walked the coast. We were fascinated with how many different types of jellyfish we saw washed up. Most of them were huge! There was also a creature that looked like a brain; I should have taken a picture of it, but it really just looked like a raw skinless/boneless chicken - like something you'd buy at the grocery, only bigger.. However, it did bring a song to mind... "Pinky and the Brain, Pinky and the Brain... one's half crazy and the other's insane. It's Pinky and the Brain, Brain, Brain, Brain, Brain..." Anyone??? Anyone?? I should have gone back and taken video because there was one jellyfish that was beached next to a "brain" - and then you could have had a treat of my singing of the song going back and forth between the two sea creatures!! HA!! I'm sure you are all very disappointed. ;)
The water was amazingly clear!! And the sun was shinning bright... it was the perfect day!!
And of course, I always have to have that one shot that I just love... that one shot that could be considered more than just a snapshot :) I like these two last photos the best.
We weren't overly adventurous on this trip... which I didn't mind. I was really nice just being able to spend time with the both of them, and then each of them separately too. They helped me get caught up on my movie watching too (something I haven't done for a long time). While I was down there, we watched:
And I went to the theater and saw Beauty and the Beast again with Lisa.
Haha, I haven't watched that many movies in the last six months!! But I would recommend all of them!! Now that I'm back, it makes me want to watch more movies. I still haven't seen, "Hacksaw Ridge" and "The Accountant"... but watching movies by myself isn't as fun... unless I go to the movie theater - then I don't mind going solo in the middle of the day.
And of course, I still worked out while I was down there. Thankfully, Jeremy has a gym that I used. Friday & Sunday I was great about doing a full hour workout (Friday - deadlifts, bench press, Goblet Squats, Squat Jumps, Windshield (knee tucks), Russian twists, Chops, Jump rope (with an invisible rope. Sunday - Step Jumps, Decline push-ups, Reverse Lunges with just the bar (yes, even though I hate them, I figured I should still be doing them), Suitcase carries with a 25# kettle bell and a 45 minute walk),, But by Monday I got bored of being by myself; and I didn't want to lift too heavy since no one around... so I probably only lasted 30 min. instead of any hour. My Tuesday and Wednesday workout went about the same as Monday... lots of core conditioning, but not nearly the intensity that I knew I was capable of... see, folks, this is why I have a trainer. I need someone pushing me. I did do back squats (with 65# - which is nothing)... but I guess it was good that I was working out at all. The only reason that I tried to workout at all, is that I promised Christian, my trainer, that I would still work out this week so that I wouldn't be out of practice by the time I returned. (I will say, even though I was kind of still working out, because I wasn't doing my full intensity... going back to the gym Friday morning, made me really anxious. It was a weird feeling to have since I had finally started feeling more comfortable in the gym before I left. Here's my post of my journey so far.
Lisa and I became sisters during this week. My brother would find us giggling over something and ask what we were up to... I felt like we were really bonding by the time I was leaving. I wasn't ready to come home because of that. So, I'm looking forward to having the opportunity to go back soon. And who knows... maybe one day , I'll make the move... besides having family down there, who wouldn't want to live in a warmer climate along the coast?!? haha
p.s. I also started writing a fictional story while I was down there. I may share a snippet later. But only if you ask nicely. lol
This blog is mainly going to feature my adventures around Columbus and Central Ohio. But yes, I'll still show off my awesome clients too.
