PHOTOGRAPHY CLASSES: Do you have a really nice DSLR camera, but no idea how to take it out of Automatic mode?  Or do you want to learn about lighting, or editing? I love teaching photography to those wanting to learn how to properly use their camera. And I have experience doing it too - I've taught photography courses at NCSC in Mansfield, and a community class in Mount Vernon; and I have over 10 years experience as an art educator.

I am currently offering a series of classes that will start in August and run through October.

::Photo Basics::  (starting in late September - exact dates coming soon)
I'll teach you about composition (elements and principles of art and design) and exposure (ISO, Aperture, and Shutter Speed). We will be taking your cameras out of Automatic and into Manual mode, one step at a time.  For each evening, the class will meet in a different location around Columbus in order to learn that particular lesson (and because variety rocks)!  Every class is 2 hours; the first 45 minutes will be taking notes on the concept, and then the rest of the time is going out and practicing it together.  We will have a gallery night - scheduled later - to show off your awesome work to friends and family (optional of course).  Classes are limited to 12 people, so that I can give everyone individual attention.  But we need a minimum of 3 people to run the class.  The class is $250 for the 4 weeks.  I will send a breakdown of the class with all of the Columbus area locations at least a week before the class starts.
A $50 deposit is required to secure your spot.

::Lighting Basics::
I'll teach you the BASICS in lighting... this will be your introduction to the concepts of how we use light in photography.  You have to know the basics of how to shoot in Manual mode before you take this class.  I will provide all of the lights for practice... so you don't have to purchase anything.  We will touch on everything from how to use the sunlight to available light (house lights), your on-camera flash, to the difference between off-camera flashes (speed lights vs. strobes).  I'll also show you how to modify your light.  These classes will primarily be inside, but we will go outside for some of them; and I'll bring in a model to practice portraits.  Every class is 2 hours; the first 30-45 minutes will be taking notes on the concept, and then the rest of the time is about practicing it together.  Classes are limited to 10 people, so that I can give everyone individual attention.  But we need a minimum of 5 people to run the class.  The class is $250 for the 4 weeks.  I will send a breakdown of the class with all of the details at least a week before the class starts.
A $50 deposit is required to secure your spot.

::Editing Basics::
This class is 5 weeks instead of the normal 4... because editing takes a bit more time to understand.  You do not need any other classes prior to learning how to edit.  However, you will need a laptop, charger, card reader, and preferably Adobe Lightroom & Adobe Photoshop.  If you do not have Lightroom, we can make do with Photoshop.  (Adobe.com rents their programs per month). For this class, we will meet in the same spot every week. Every class is 2 hours; all classes will incorporate learning and practicing times.  Classes are limited to 15 people, so that I can give everyone individual attention.  But we need a minimum of 5 people to run the class.  The class is still $250 for the 4 weeks.  I will send a breakdown of the class with all of the details at least a week before the class starts.
A $75 deposit is required to secure your spot.

After the holidays, I will also offer a Conceptual Portraits class, teaching how I do style shoots.  It takes a lot of time, but the results are worth it!  I'll take you step by step through how I shoot one of my fairytales.  You'll be working in groups to create and execute a conceptual portrait.
